THE ONE WAY TO HEAVEN

Heaven, for which mankind has longed throughout the ages, is neither a far-off nor a present material habitation, but is a mental state in which harmony governs. Christian Science emphasizes this fact and shows that heaven is characterized by peace, purity, wisdom, spiritual understanding, power, and love.

That which denies heaven or harmony orginates in the mortal or carnal mind, a fleshly sense of being. Paul wrote (Rom. 8:6), "To be carnally minded is death." Death is part of the belief of life in the flesh. Diseases which medical science deems malignant or capable of producing death are basically a condition of the carnal mind. Then it is the carnal mind that is malignant. Paul explained why (verse 7): "Because the carnal mind is enmity against God."

One meaning of the word "malignant," which stems from the Latin word meaning "to do or make maliciously," is "rebellious against God." The carnal mind would reverse the truth of being, the immortality of God and man, Mind and idea. Chaos, ignorance, hate, fear, and corporeality characterize the carnal mind, which declares that God causes evil, that disease is a power competing with God, and that man is struggling or helpless mortal.
