My mother, who had taken up...

My mother, who had taken up the study of Christian Science, was completely healed of asthma, hay fever, and rose cold. When she came to visit me she said that she hoped her visit me she said that she hoped her visit would be the means of my becoming interested in Christian Science. Shortly after that I began its study. My sister and two brothers also took up its study as a result of my mother's healing.

For many years I had gone on hunting expeditions. Soon after taking up the study of Science, I went on what was to be my last hunting trip. Our base was in Maine.

The lake was very rough, and we were in what was called a nonsinkable canoe with a motor drive. Shortly after we had left the shore, the boat was swamped as a result of the heavy winds and rough water. Because of the weight of three men and heavy clothing, the canoe sank to a depth which made the water come up to our necks.

The first thing that came into my mind was "the scientific statement of being" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, p. 468); this I said many times, and I know that its truths helped all of us.

We were in the water, which was approximately thirty-eight degrees, for over three quarters of an hour. Just at a point when I felt I could no longer hold on either mentally or physically, I saw two men running down to the shore, calling to us to hold on until they could get to us.

They reached us, and we were taken to a cookhouse and given some hot soup. No one got even so much as a cold as a result of this experience. This was clear evidence to me that, as "the scientific statement of being" says: "There is no life, truth, intelligence, nor substance in matter. All is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation, for God is All-in-all." Is it any wonder that I am truly grateful for what knowledge of Christian Science I had at the time of this experience?

For some time I had thought I enjoyed the habit of smoking both pipes and cigars. Then at a Christian Science lecture, the lecturer referred to this passage by Mrs. Eddy (ibid., p. 407): "Puffing the obnoxious fumes of tobacco, or chewing a leaf naturally attractive to no creature except a loathsome worm, is at least disgusting." Before he had finished his subject, I turned to my wife and told her I had been healed of this habit. I never smoked again.

After this, although I was quite successful in a mechanical business, I thought it was necessary to indulge in social drinking in order to secure my success; but recalling that I had been healed of the use of tobacco, I asked for help from a Christian Science practitioner in order to overcome the social drinking habit. Within a very short time after that I was completely healed.

Since these healings I have also been healed of back trouble and of the effects of a very bad fall that I had while connected with the shipbuilding business. For all these healings, I am sincerely grateful.—Guy Gregory, Pompano Beach, Florida.
