THE MINUTEMAN OF TODAY

On the Green of the town of Lexington, Massachusetts, there stands a well-known statue of an armed farmer apparently ready for immediate call to action. This statue commemorates the band of citizens known as minutemen, who pledged themselves to respond at a minute's notice to come to the defense of their country, their homes, and their families.

The Christian Scientist is called upon to be the minuteman of today. He pledges himself to work for the destruction of every aggressive suggestion of the carnal mind—the false beliefs and counterfeit claims of life and intelligence in matter.

Mary Baker Eddy sets forth clearly the work of the minuteman of today in the following challenge (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 177): "Will you give yourselves wholly and irrevocably to the great work of establishing the truth, the gospel, and the Science which are necessary to the salvation of the world from error, sin, disease, and death? Answer at once and practically, and answer aright!"
