I am grateful for the sustaining...

I am grateful for the sustaining love of the great Shepherd, revealed in the Bible and in Mrs. Eddy's writings. Predictions by the medical faculty that I would be stillborn were refuted through the prayerful work of a Christian Science practitioner. I am grateful for the example of my mother, who is a loyal and earnest student of Christian Science and who must have been strengthened by this experience.

Seventeen years in the Christian Science Sunday School were a priceless blessing to me. Suggestions of sickness were quickly overcome in my school days. At examination time I relied on God, omniscient Mind, for intelligence and expression. The examinations were completed successfully, the results corresponding to the prayerful metaphysical work that was done.

I am grateful for the confidence and security which Christian Science gives to young people in their teens, when general belief would attach insecurity and uncertainty to this stage. In college years, I was healed of self-consciousness. The Christian Science Monitor Youth Forum showed me that the world is wide and contains many different individualities, but that each actually expresses Mind's qualities. This understanding freed me from an inferiority complex which I had had while in the company of other girls and boys.
