THE HEART OF LOVE

There is much talk today about the heart, and much fear is expressed as to various ailments connected with it. Christian Science approaches the subject in quite a different way from that of physical science and materia medica. Christian Science teaches that God, not a muscular organ of flesh and blood, is the source of life. It teaches that man lives and moves and has his being in God, as the Scriptures say, not that a heart within one maintains his life.

"The divine Mind that made man maintains His own image and likeness," Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 151). Divine Mind is God, and God is Love, infinite, ever-present, all-embracing Love. There is no trouble, no pain, no weakness, no limitation in Love, man's eternal dwelling place; and this fact is demonstrable. Christian Science does not overlook the fact that the functioning of the human body is subject to the control of the law of God and that insofar as it is so governed, it is harmonious.

Mrs. Eddy defines "heart" as, "Mortal feelings, motives, affections, joys, and sorrows" (ibid., p. 587). We have a very important part to play, then, in the realm of our thinking. Our feelings, or our emotions, as they are commonly called, must be kept pure and wholesome.
