It was in the year 1906 that I first heard of Christian Science. At this time I had many ailments, and just through my reading Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy all the ailments disappeared. Later, while still new in Christian Science, I had a serious eye difficulty, and I turned to a practitioner for help. I had treatment and received some relief, but I did not respond as I should.

One day the practitioner asked me if it was in my thought to go to a doctor, and I said that it was, for I believed there was something in my eyes that needed to be removed. I asked that treatment be continued, but the practitioner said I must make my choice between Christian Science and medical treatment.

I went to the doctor and had an X ray, but he could find nothing that needed to be removed. The doctor made many dire predictions concerning my eyes and said there was no known cure for them. He then brought in a bottle which he said contained a mixture which I was to apply to my eyes.
