We read in Psalms (91:11, 12):...

We read in Psalms (91:11, 12): "He shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone." The truth of this promise was experienced by me on a Thanksgiving evening about ten years ago. I had attended the Thanksgiving Day service at a Church of Christ, Scientist, where I was a new member, and my thinking had been greatly uplifted by the beauty of the service and the many inspiring testimonies of gratitude. In the afternoon I went with my husband and our young children to a neighbor's house, entering it by a newly constructed back porch.

When we left the neighbor's house, it was after dark. I led the way to the unlit back porch with my baby daughter in my arms. Thinking I knew where the steps down to the yard were, I stepped off the porch, but the steps were not there; and I fell forward. As I fell the three-foot drop to the ground, I felt as if I were floating, and I turned over so that our daughter, instead of being under me, was on top of me. I landed softly on the dirt in a spot just beside the rocks that bordered the driveway. I had the feeling of having been lowered carefully onto a soft mattress, and the baby was uninjured.

My husband, who was following me, saw me fall, and he told me later that he had never seen anyone fall so slowly in his life. He was not interested in Christian Science at the time, but he willingly acknowledged that he had witnessed a remarkable evidence of God's protective power.
