RIGHT GOVERNMENT

Christ Jesus , our Way-shower, taught men (Matt 22:21), "Render ... unto Cæsar the things which are Cæsar's; and unto God the things that are God's." And we have proof that he did this himself. His obedience to the laws of the land did not deter him from obeying the higher laws of God, by which he demonstrated man's sinlessness and health, joy and abundance, peace and security.

However, human concepts of government should conform to God's law of good in order to be right and useful. Right governments have been worked out by mankind through laborious steps of progress. Groping for something better than tyranny and exploitation, men have gained a measure of freedom for their countrymen and for posterity. The individual efforts of these patriots point to the fact that right government is fundamentally an individual matter. All hope of human liberty must develop from the truth that individual man, God's spiritual image, is governed by his creator. Christian Science proves this great truth.

Mary Baker Eddy writes in "Pulpit and Press" (p. 4): "Is not a man metaphysically and mathematically number one, a unit, and therefore whole number, governed and protected by his divine Principle, God? You have simply to preserve a scientific, positive sense of unity with your divine source, and daily demonstrate this."
