In services at First Church of Christ, Scientist, San Fernando, on Sunday, April 8, the building which was opened for services July 17, 1949, was formally dedicated.

The local church began in March, 1921, when a few Christian Science students met here to organize an informal group. In December of the year, the group was reorganized to apply for recognition by The Mother Church, in Boston, Massachusetts, as a Christian Science Society. For three years, services were held in the old Cody Theater. In 1922 two members of the young society donated a lot at the corner of North Maclay Avenue and Morningside Court to be used as a church site.
