I owe my life and happiness to...

I owe my life and happiness to Christian Science, and this testimony is written in recognition of and gratitude for this fact.

When I was eleven years old I was placed in a Christian Science Sunday School, and I attended until I was sixteen years of age. Then I left the Sunday School, and for the next five years I wandered as a prodigal among the husks of materialism. I wound up living in a place known for its loose morals. Profanity, inebriety, gambling, and loose living reached their zenith in my experience and resulted in a nervous and physical breakdown so serious that I did not care whether I lived or not.

After I had been under treatment by a physician for several months, he told me that since he was unable to help me, he was going to give up my case. I thought I had reached the end of everything. Instead, it was just the beginning, for that night a holy thing happened.
