Through the study and application of the Bible and Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy, students of Christian Science are able to bring into their experience proofs of the promises of God to His beloved children. Many and varied have been the blessings which have come to me and my family through the realization that the promises of God are kept.

One morning I was placing a piece of wood on the fire in the fireplace. Immediately both sleeves of a jacket which I was wearing ignited. The flames spread rapidly, and soon I was enveloped in them. Instantly I found myself saying: "Oh no, you don't. You cannot do something that God does not do."

Then this quotation from Isaiah came to my thought (43:2): "When thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee." Although I had been trying to slap out the flames with my hands as best I could, it was impossible to put them out that way. However, when this statement came to me so clearly, the flames died out completely.
