During the First World War, I...

During the First World War, I had the unhappy experience of being gassed. As a result I had continual and serious digestive trouble. I was attended by many physicians, but they were unable to alleviate the situation.

Finally a relative of mine who was a physician sent me to a doctor who, he stated, was considered to be at the very top of his profession. After examining me, this doctor told me that the lining of my stomach had been almost entirely destroyed by the gas and that there was no cure for me. He said he would endeavor to prolong my life for a year or so, but that was the best that could be done. He prescribed various drugs, which I used to no avail.

A friend of mine who knew of this situation recommended that I study Christian Science and assured me that I would find help in so doing. I threw out all my medicines and began at once to study both the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health by Mary Baker Eddy. My health began to improve immediately, and within six months I was entirely well.
