"THE SUNLIGHT OF TRUTH"
Men have always looked to the sun for light, heat, food, health, and even happiness. They have also believed that too much sun or the lack of it could cause illness, despair, or other detrimental effects. Men have even worshiped the sun as a god.
Christian Science gives us a new concept of the sun by viewing it not as an influence or as a governing power, but as a symbol of God's harmonious control of the universe. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 538), "The sun, giving light and heat to the earth, is a figure of divine Life and Love, enlightening and sustaining the universe."
The contemplation of the sun as a symbol or example of the source of the shining light and the power of Truth reveals the nature of such positive qualities as love, harmony, order, and completeness; it clarifies for mankind the thought of one central governing power, and helps to illuminate human consciousness with the spiritual facts of being.
