LEANING ON GOD

One of the first requirements demanded of students of Christian Science is that they lean on God. In the opening sentence of the Preface to "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy says (p. vii), "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." Each individual longs for security, something on which he may lean and some source of supply for his needs.

It is important, then, to learn what constitutes true security and how to obtain it. It is evident that there is no real security in material things, because they are false and fleeting. One must learn through spiritual understanding to lean on God. This understanding brings needed blessings.

Christian Science reveals that God made all and includes all. This excludes matter, for God is Spirit, and all things real must be spiritual. We learn in Science that health, harmony, supply, are spiritual, that they are included in God, and that man reflects them. God controls and blesses man. God and man are inseparable. There is nothing that can interfere with the continuous flow of ideas from God to man. One must lean on God by claiming his identity as a child of God and thus receive blessings in terms which human sense understands.
