"LET NOT YOUR HEART BE TROUBLED"

In a world stirred by scientific wonders, each surpassing the other in prospective power to bless or to harm, there is a deeply troubled consciousness that is groping for direction. Christ Jesus, describing the happenings of the latter days, spoke of "men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth" (Luke 21:26). But to the spiritual seers of the age of chemicalization and change, he said, "When these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

The spiritually wise of this age should have a confident assurance as to their lot and as to the safety of their loved ones. While the worldly fear destruction, Christian Scientists can see the possibilities of great good to the degree that spiritual forces direct mankind's scientific advancements into channels of usefulness. Christian Scientists are happy to see the rapid increase of scientific knowledge, and they pray that this knowledge may be put to good humanitarian uses and that ultimately this knowledge will give place to universal acceptance of the Christ, Truth—the supreme authority of God.

The prayers of Christian Scientists are premised on the understanding that Spirit, God, is the only source of power and might; that the physical forces which are being harnessed are but the counterfeit of God's power; that these forces, even those usefully applied, will in the end give way to the irresistible force of Spirit, God.
