INDIVIDUAL EXPRESSION OF DIVINE POWER
Christ Jesus was the greatest exponent of the power of God in human affairs. In all his ways he illustrated the statement in the first chapter of Genesis that God gave man dominion over all the earth. When Jesus was brought before Pilate, this representative of the political might of Rome asked him (John 19:10), "Knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee, and have power to release thee?"
Then Jesus answered him, "Thou couldest have no power at all against me, except it were given thee from above."
In this experience Jesus faced not only the political power of a dictator, but also the ecclesiastical power of the rabbis, as well as the hatred of mortal mind in its attempt to annihilate the Christ, which he exemplified.
