During the course of my employment, some foreign matter entered my thumb, which began to blister and swell. I had become so accustomed in the past to rid myself quickly of such ailments through the application of appropriate truths taught in Christian Science that I did not pay much attention at first to the injury.

I soon found, however, that a condition which at first glance might have been dismissed as insignificant was to tax to the utmost my understanding of and faith in the healing power of Christian Science. Ultimately I was not really sorry about this, for the healing which followed not only confirmed in my own thought the existence of God, who is able to heal all our diseases, but also brought this Science to the notice of others who up to that time had been ignorant or skeptical of its wonderful healing power.

Within two days I was in such pain that I could hardly sleep or perform even little tasks without the greatest difficulty. I got in touch with a Christian Science practitioner, who consented to work prayerfully. The first words she said to me were, "It isn't true." The pain continued throughout the next day, and that night sleep was impossible. However, as I lay awake studying Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the thumb began to discharge, and I felt that the healing was taking place.
