Signs of the Times

Prayer in secret holds the secret of prayer. We have our Lord's word for it. "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and...shut thy door...." Public praying soon becomes vain repetition, if the inner life is not constantly refreshed at the springs of private prayer....

How much about private prayer can we learn from the prayer our Lord gave His disciples! We may mark especially two or three things. ...First its absorption with God— the hallowing of His Name, the coming of His kingdom and the doing of His will. Here is expressed that longing...to be one with Him in all that He is and does, which is of the essence of true prayer.
