I received my first healing in Christian Science twenty-eight years ago. It came about in this way: Shortly after I had gone into the service station business in the state of Washington, I met a family I had known in Minnesota when I was a boy. The wife had been a schoolteacher. On her way to a picnic on the last day of school, she had been thrown from a buggy when the team ran away, and she received a severe back injury. She had two operations but grew no better.

I knew about the accident and about her condition before I left Minnesota. When we met again in Washington, she was the picture of perfect health, and she told me that she had been healed through Christian Science. She gave me some literature and told me that if I ever became sick to come to their home. I took the literature, but I could not get interested in it.

Later on I felt very ill. Judging from the symptoms, I believe I had pneumonia. Seeing my condition, a friend offered to take me to the home of a nurse in the town. But I asked him to take me to the home of the people I had known in Minnesota. He did so, and when I arrived there the family put me to bed.
