WHERE DO YOU STAND?

"Where do you stand? Whose side are you on?" These are questions which men are frequently called upon to answer, individually or collectively. The Christian Scientist learns to turn directly to God, divine Love, for every right decision and is found taking his stand always on God's side. Mary Baker Eddy writes (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 146): "The Christian Scientist voices the harmonious and eternal, and nothing else. He lays his whole weight of thought, tongue, and pen in the divine scale of being–for health and holiness."

Christ Jesus always took his stand on the side of God. Knowing that God is All–in–all, the perfect cause of all existence and action, he turned to Him for guidance in all of his activities. He was never found on the side of sin, disease, or death. He prayed consistently to do God's will in everything he said and did. And although his decisions sometimes aroused his enemies to acts of violence, they always resulted in blessings for mankind.

Toward the end of his career Jesus went to the garden of Gethsemane with a few of his faithful disciples. But they slept even while he was making the great decision of his career–to yield wholly to God's will and thus point the way for all men to salvation from all human ills. This great decision to take his stand on the side of divine Principle enabled him to survive the cross and the tomb and to rise to the proof of his true and eternal identity as the Son of God.
