"THE PRECIOUS SONS OF ZION"

The prophet Jeremiah lamented (Lam. 4:2), "The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!" This statement discloses the woefully mistaken sense that mankind has of true being and identity.

The very word "precious" signifies that which is "highly esteemed; dear; beloved." And on page 599 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mary Baker Eddy gives a definition of "Zion," which reads in part, "Spiritual foundation and superstructure." Man's true origin and identity are in Spirit, God, and God holds His "precious sons" in dearest and highest esteem.

To possess this infinite blessing of being esteemed by God as His "precious sons," or ideas, and yet to be unaware of it is indeed cause for lamentation. Through its glorious revelation, based upon the inspired Word of the Bible, Christian Science awakens us to recognize and acknowledge our true identity and to claim the complete transformation which the recognition of our relationship with God bestows. This Science fosters the constant watchfulness of thought which will entitle us to the fullest freedom and blessedness.
