When first I became interested...

When first I became interested in Christian Science, I was in urgent need of physical healing. I had become a bedridden cripple with a rheumatic condition. After medical doctors and material remedies had failed to help me, I became desperately determined to find some way out of the difficulty.

I prayed for divine guidance and was reminded that a casual acquaintance had asked why I did not try Christian Science. At this time I was led to consult a Christian Science practitioner. It was late afternoon when I requested help of this practitioner, and at nine o'clock that same evening I felt that I had been completely healed.

However, there was a lingering fear that this sense of well-being might not last, that it was all too good to be true, I returned to my work, but before long I experienced a return of the symptoms which I had had before. Other workmen on the job insisted on removing me to a hospital. I rejected this suggestion and asked to be assisted to a telephone. Then I called the same practitioner who had previously helped me. She lovingly reassured me of the presence and healing power of Truth, and she gave me a citation of Scripture to read. I turned from the telephone, opened the Bible, which I happened to have with me, and read (Nah. 1:9), "What do ye imagine against the Lord?"
