STUDYING EFFECTIVELY

[Of Special Interest to Young People]

Everyone desires his work to be effective and to bring good results. This is a right desire, natural and good. Whether one is enrolled as a student in a university or in a grade school, the need for effective working and studying is readily apparent. In order that we may obtain good results from studying, it is necessary to know how to study.

In Christian Science we see that learning how to study includes two important steps. The first step is the spiritualizing of our activities by our making practical the facts concerning God and man. This spiritual understanding is gained from the study of the Bible Lessons, as outlined in the Christian Science Quarterly. These lessons are available to all, children and adults. It is the spiritual apprehension of the ever-presence of God and of the real man. His perfect image, that enables us to take the first step toward effective work, that of spiritualizing what we do.

Spiritualizing our activity means to translate our work into spiritual terms, to learn to express our true identity. Metaphysical preparation is needed for any human endeavor. Does this seem to be remote and unrelated to our preparing homework for school or studying for an examination? Actually it is not, for if we first establish in our thought man's spiritual identity as a child of God, as the reflection of divine Mind, this prepares us for the practical application and demonstration of the truth in human affairs.
