"To those leaning on the sustaining...

"To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings" (Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, Pref., p. vii). Those words from the first page of the Christian Science textbook were in our Bible Lesson in the Christian Science Quarterly during the week when our son was born, about three years ago, and they have had a special meaning for me ever since. Every experience immediately before, during, and after his birth was proof of God's loving care.

These words from the Bible came to me (Isa. 55:12): "Ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace." This was truly my experience. The birth was completely harmonious, and less than an hour after our son was born I telephoned my mother to cable the good news to my husband, who was overseas in the Air Force.

Several months later, our daughter had an experience which made me take a very strong stand for Truth. While we were visiting relatives, she was bitten on the chest and arm by their dog. I immediately telephoned a practitioner who worked prayerfully for the child. The relatives, who were not Christian Scientists, tried to persuade me to summon a doctor. I lovingly refused and took the child home. All the way home I prayed, knowing that only Love could prevail and that the dog was in its true state an idea of God and one idea of God could not possibly harm another.
