Signs of the Times

Rev. Carl A. Wallis in the Santa Maria Daily Times California

Several years ago a rare-book dealer of Philadelphia purchased the first book printed in America. It was the Bay Psalm Book, published in 1640. Purchase price was $151,000—the highest price ever paid for a book in this country.

But you can buy a volume for less than a dollar that is far more precious than that rare volume; an ancient and priceless book, the most valuable book that anyone has ever, or shall ever, own, a Holy Bible. There are many facts which account for the greatness of the Bible. . . . It is God's Book, His Holy Word. . . . This fact is quite enough in itself to set the Bible apart from all other books. It is the one Book we can never leave behind. It is never out-of-date. The Bible belongs to those things which men must have, for "man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God."
