Christian Science was presented to me in 1920 when I read a copy of The Herald of Christian Science (German Edition). For weeks I had been suffering from gall blader attacks, and only injections of morphine would deaden the pain. My condition was serious, and I was about to give my consent to an operation. The day before the operation was to take place I decided against it and determined to put my trust in God and rely on Christian Science.

A woman who had known of Christian Science for a long time helped me. She gave me a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and acquainted me with the fundamentals of its teachings. Self-righteousness, human will, and sensitiveness were cast out, and the gallstones disappeared.
