I am very grateful that the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, instituted the Wednesday testimony meetings, for it was at the first of these which I attended that I felt a strong desire to read the textbook of Christian Science, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," of which Mrs. Eddy is the author.

I borrowed the book that evening from the lending library of the church, and in about a fortnight I read it from beginning to end. During this reading, which was not in the nature of study, but just to see what the book was about, I became convinced that here was the teaching of Christ Jesus defined with the rules that all could use to bring about the healings which he said we should accomplish.

Although it was not the need of physical healing which prompted my first visit to a Church of Christ, Scientist, I very much wanted to give the teachings of Christian Science a fair trial; so I left off taking medicine which I had used regularly for chronic constipation for as long as I could remember. I was healed of that difficulty instantaneously, just through reading the textbook with an open mind. With this healing came other, namely those of acute headaches, constant backache, and weariness. These just disappeared, and I felt like a new person. With the Apostle Paul I could say (II Cor. 5:17), "Old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."
