HOW THE USHER SERVES

Christ Jesus gave us the key to true service when he said (Mark 12:30, 31): "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. ... Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." Obedience to these commands is the only practical way to demonstrate true service to mankind. They are the basis for the work of an usher in a Church of Christ, Scientist.

To serve as an usher is a sacred privilege. The consecrated Christian Scientist who receives such an appointment is grateful that he is allowed to take part in such important work. Before assuming his duties, the prospective usher will find it helpful to study the passages pertaining to Church in the Concordances to the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. Especially inspiring is Mrs. Eddy's definition of "Church," found on page 583 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Here she gives us the spiritual meaning as follows:

"The structure of Truth and Love; whatever rests upon and proceeds from divine Principle."
