In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy makes this statement (p. 574): "The very circumstance, which your suffering sense deems wrathful and afflictive, Love can make an angel entertained unawares." I have seen much evidence of this truth, and I should like to tell of two of these experiences.

About ten years ago I was in such mental and nervous torment that I found it almost impossible to be with people. I could not even eat meals with my family. I had been raised in Christian Science, but had not made much effort to demonstrate it myself; so I began to visit a Christian Science practitioner daily. After several weeks of these daily visits, accompanied by the prayerful work of this practitioner, I gained enough peace of mind to go back to work and assume a responsible position, but it was considerably longer before I was willing to acknowledge that I was completely healed and before I ceased to fear a return of the condition.

My growth Spiritward during this time was great and joyous. It had only been the lack of spiritual understanding that had made the discordant condition apparent, and as I gained a correct understanding of God and saw the man of God's creating, all fear arising from belief in an opposite material creation left. My regular study during and following this experience naturally developed into a desire for class instruction, which I later received and which explained Christian Science practice, showing me how to do my own prayerful work.
