Activities for the Armed Services

Maryland

There are three Naval Training Centers in the United States for the training of recruits. One is in Maryland, the second in Illinois, and the third in California. Each week thousands of young men come into these centers to embark on their naval careers and to be transformed from civilians into sailors.

Among the first steps that the recruits take is to meet with the Chaplain of their denomination. The Christian Science Chaplain who is currently stationed at the Naval Training Center in Maryland is notified of the arrival of all men who indicate Christian Science as their religious preference. Our Chaplain meets these men, welcomes them to the center, and informs them about the Christian Science activities being carried on there. After showing them the little chapel where Christian Science services are held, he offers to assist them in every way possible. This offer includes free Christian Science treatment.
