"FEAR THOU NOT"

God's persuasive, "Fear thou not; for I am with thee," is immeasurably comforting, and it is also a clarion call to action. It calls upon us to challenge the error which has perhaps seemed engulfing. God not only reassures us. He commands, "Fear thou not," and this command when obeyed through spiritual understanding leads to freedom. In the chapter on Christian Science Practice in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy instructs us plainly (p. 411), "Always begin your treatment by allaying the fear of patients."

One allays fear not by ignoring it, but by understanding what it is and what it is not, by replacing it with a conscious awareness of Love's omnipotent ever-presence and all-inclusive protection. Fear is illusion. It is a self-constituted error, a state of self-deception. It is Mind-less, Love-less, cause-less. God-less. And that which has no Mind, or Love, or cause, or God, is in reality nonexistent, for without origin or creator nothing can actually exist.

Since it is an illusion, fear cannot retard, prevent, or thwart the action of divine Being. Fear can cause neither disease nor relapse. In reality it can cause nothing whatsoever, because God and God alone is cause. Fear is without entity and is operative only in belief. But the beloved children of God, whose children we are, are the forever individualized expressions of divine Mind, eternally safe and secure within this Mind, untouched by false belief.
