THE STRENGTH OF TENDERNESS

Faithful students of Christian Science abide by demonstrable rules laid down by Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of this Science. The alert student early learns the priceless value of studying and obeying these scientific rules in order to gain the enduring qualities of Life, Truth, and Love, such as humility, integrity, purity, spiritual understanding, love, wisdom, and so on. These divine qualities of God supply the children of infinite Love with the strength of unfailing tenderness. The power of divine Principle, mingled with the gentle nature of Love, is the underlying source and substance of this strength.

"God is my strength and power," declared David, "and he maketh my way perfect" (II Sam. 22:33). What a comfort to know that it is the understanding of ourselves as sons and daughters of God, possessing inexhaustible spiritual strength, which gives us dominion over all adverse circumstances. God, omnipotent good, cannot be cruel or unjust.

When seemingly downtrodden, neglected, or injured, we can lift up our heads with joy to receive the saving grace of our heavenly Father, the Giver of all good. We can quietly and confidently trust the tender care of God's loving power to supply all our needs. With an awareness of God's love for His children, we can prove the surety of our freedom from all want and say with David (verse 36), "Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great."
