THE MEDICINE OF MIND

In the New Testament we read of a woman who had suffered for twelve years from a serious physical ailment. She had spent all of her money for medical treatment, had suffered much, and had grown worse instead of better. Then she heard of Jesus and his great healing power. Eagerly she approached him in the throng and touched the hem of his garment, hopeful that even this act would help her. And she was immediately healed! Then Jesus made the well-known declaration (Mark 5:34), "Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague."

Christ Jesus emphasized the fact that we should have faith in God and not in matter or material medicine. He constantly turned the thought of his disciples to the importance of prayer and spiritualization of thought. He himself always turned to God to overcome all human ills and limitations. He never prescribed drugs or medicine.

In Christian Science we learn that the healing and redeeming agent for every human ill is Christ, Truth. Christ is the power, presence, nature, and substance of God expressed. Every one of us is endowed with the Christ. This is the true nature of our being. And the Christ manifests the pure qualities and faculties of Spirit.
