I feel overwhelmed with gratitude for the many outstanding healings I have experienced through the study and application of Christian Science over a period of several years. After becoming a student of this Science I often wondered if my understanding of it would be sufficient to meet a case of sickness that was extremely serious. Some years ago the opportunity came for this question to be answered.

While engaged in selling prefabricated houses to the drillers of oil, I was living alone in a sample building which I had furnished to serve as my office and sleeping quarters. Late one night I was stricken with a very severe case of what I believed to be ptomaine poisoning.

I was a class-taught student of Christian Science, and I began at once to give myself a treatment. However, the fear was very great, and in a few minutes the suffering became so intense that I found myself almost unable to move. I was tempted to call a doctor who was living next door to me, but I realized that to do so would not be to take a radical stand for Science, and I refused the suggestion.
