LETTERS TO THE PRESS FROM CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Young Life

Young Life London, England

In his article on Christian Science in [a recent] issue, [a contributor] writes sincerely, but his comments suggest that his knowledge of Christian Science is rather superficial, and leads him into some incorrect conclusions. ...

Your contributor seems not to be aware that physical healing in Christian Science is in the nature of an aftereffect rather than a primal aim. Seeking "first the kingdom of God" is the only real way of ensuring that the other needful things are added. Many people are grateful to Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder, Mary Baker Eddy, first for lives regenerated and sin forsaken, secondly for physical healing, which then follows as the day follows night. The sign of true healing is better thinking and living, the heart softened and motives purified. Such changes of thought restore the mechanism of the body automatically and this is true Christian healing.
