"GOOD TIDINGS ... TO ALL PEOPLE"

"Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people" (Luke 2: 10). Thus did the heavenly evangel address the shepherds in the fields on the night of our Saviour's birth. These herdsmen, who no doubt had long anticipated the coming of the Messiah, glorified and praised God because of what they heard and saw that night.

The wondrous tidings, it will be noted, were promised "to all people."' It was not a message limited to the Palestinians or any other special segment of human society. It was a universal, impersonal message given of God. Although voiced at first only to the shepherds, it can be heard today by all who earnestly desire spiritual goodness, health, and harmony.

To Christian Scientists, the nativity of Jesus points to the ineffably tender and loving gift of salvation and healing, which God eternally presents to all. This honored occasion signalizes the appearing in human consciousness of the Christ, the divine manifestation of God, the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
