On page 147 of the textbook. Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy writes: "Although this volume contains the complete Science of Mind-healing, never believe that you can absorb the whole meaning of the Science b a simple perusal of this book. The book needs to be studied, and the demonstration of the rules of scientific healing will plant you firmly on the spiritual groundwork of Christian Science."

This statement has become more clear to me since the day over twenty years ago that a friend who was a Christian Scientist heard me exclaim about another's illness, "I just can't believe she is that ill."

Her response was like a light turned on in a dark room, "You don't have to believe it unless you believe God is a wicked God who sends sickness to make people suffer."
