I have great cause to express...

I have great cause to express gratitude to God for Christian Science. I was a child of four when my family took up the study of this Science after a remarkable healing of my mother, who for fifteen years had been a semi-invalid. However, I did not begin to strive for an understanding of Science until I was married and the mother of two children. While the children were quite young, my home was broken up, and I was faced with what appeared to be insurmountable problems.

Because my whole situation was dark and threatening, I spent hours and even entire days alone, working and praying for a more spiritual sense of home, supply, motherhood, fatherhood, and children. One day my younger child was struck by an automobile. The prayerful work I had been doing enabled me to pick up the little girl without fear and to assure the driver whose car had struck her that all was well.

The child was crying as I put her into my car, but I was able to say to her with calm conviction, "All we know is that this is God's bright and happy day." The crying ceased, but there was still evidence of discomfort. I did not examine her when I readied home but laid her on the bed and called a practitioner. After I had read a few hymns to the child from the Christian Science Hymnal, she sat up and said she wanted to get up. She did so, and she and I went out to have lunch at a friend's home. The child was happy all afternoon and played in a swing.
