SPIRITUAL EVIDENCE
In Christian Science we learn to distinguish between the testimony of matter or the material senses and the testimony of God, Spirit. It is generally believed that nerves play an important part in keeping the individual informed of what goes on in the material body and outside of it. This testimony is reversed by Christian Science, which declares that man is not constituted of material bones, nerves, brain, and other organs, but of perfect spiritual ideas.
Mary Baker Eddy writes (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 480): "Nerves are an element of the belief that there is sensation in matter, whereas matter is devoid of sensation. Consciousness, as well as action, is governed by Mind,—is in God, the origin and governor of all that Science reveals."
The various nervous and mental diseases and derangements supposed to be caused by the overaction, inaction, or diseased action of the so-called nervous system are seen, in Science, to be false beliefs, not actualities. They are the false testimony of the so-called carnal, material, or mortal mind.
