I am grateful to God for Christ Jesus, the Way-shower, as well as for Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures." Her revelation to this age has made the ever-present Christ, Truth, which heals and saves us, as practical today as it was over nineteen hundred years ago.

In 1920, while serving on a passenger ship sailing between New York and the Mediterranean ports, I had for a shipmate a student of Christian Science, who took me to a lecture and also gave me my first copy of the textbook. I appreciated most of this book, though not understanding some of its statements, but the seed of Truth did not go down very deep. One statement, however, remained with me. It is on the first page of the Preface: "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings."

Gradually my interest in Christian Science faded out. Then, in an hour of need, I met my former shipmate, who had become a Christian Science practitioner. Once more he was the good Samaritan. He took me into his office, and I told him of the two years of medical treatment which I had undergone and which had included hospitalization and surgery for what had been diagnosed as carious bones in some of the vertebrae. My friend spoke of the healing truth, and again I began to study the textbook. Soon I was well enough to return to duty.
