PROTECTING THE FUTURE

Some people put so much emphasis on protection of the future that they are unable to enjoy the present. Others are so concerned with the indulgence of their present wants that eventually they become a care to others. Since the preservation of individual security is a right idea, surely there must be a right course for its attainment.

The study and practice of the teachings of Christian Science enable one to live fully in the present and to ensure a continuance of today's blessings. To do this, one must turn from the false sense of life and its enjoyments, generally accepted by men, to the spiritual sense of creation as recorded in the first chapter of Genesis. This creation is the reality of being, unmarred by the mist, or state of mystification, in which men seem to be made "of the dust of the ground" (Gen. 2:7), limited mortal beings at the mercy of countless beliefs of chance and change.

Man, the image and likeness of God, the idea of divine Mind, possesses through reflection the substance of all the good for which mortals strive and which they fear that they may lose. Man lives now and forever at the standpoint of opportunity, in the full enjoyment of his birthright as the son of God. When we understand and maintain these facts, we can prove for ourselves that man's position is maintained by Mind. His income, a wealth of spiritual ideas, is inexhaustible. It cannot be outlined by human controls or diminished by taxation, nor can it fluctuate in value. Matter is always limited, whether it seems to be scarce or abundant; but spiritual ideas are infinite and ever available. As we utilize these ideas in our experience, they illuminate our consciousness with a sense of God's unchanging goodness.
