THE PERMANENCY OF THE SPIRITUAL IDEA

Humanity is longing for that which is substantial, for that which is permanent. A dictionary definition of the word "permanent" includes, "Lasting or designed to last indefinitely without change; enduring." The Bible reveals God as the immutable divine Principle of all creation. John declares (1:3), "All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made;" and in Malachi His changelessness is made known (3:6), "I am the Lord, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed."

Mary Baker Eddy declares in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (pp. 256, 257), "Infinite Mind is the creator, and creation is the infinite image or idea emanating from this Mind." The idea emanating from divine Mind is included in and must partake of the exact nature of Mind. Mind's idea is governed, sustained, and perpetuated by immutable spiritual law. Thus we see that all that is real, changeless, and permanent is God and His idea or creation.

In Science and Health, speaking of spiritual man, the only man, Mrs. Eddy tells us (p. 475), "He is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas." To understand true selfhood, the man of God's creating, is to be conscious of one's immortality; it is to realize that man is the very embodiment of all that is good, real, and permanent.
