Progress in Branch Churches

Our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, writes in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 199), "The devotion of thought to an honest achievement makes the achievement possible."

A grateful heart can accomplish wonders! Fourteen years ago a man's heart so overflowed with gratitude for Christian Science that he wished to share his treasure with as many people as possible. He was at that time ninety years of age and was living in a remote mountain area. He had been healed in Christian Science, he said, of an orgy with rum, which lasted for nine years. He loved to discuss this religion with the people of that country region, and in writing to The Mother Church he described his activities as follows:

"Now after much investigation in a quiet way and by talking about Christian Science and by questioning indirectly men and women of good repute, I have gleaned such information regarding their beliefs on religious questions as leads me to think that with an intelligent, earnest invitation they would be interested in forming a Christian Science Society and that it would be self-supporting from the start."
