How very wise our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy,...

How very wise our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, was not only in revealing the truth to the world, but also in providing for its widespread growth through the establishment of the periodicals, each of which has its place in bringing Christian Science nearer to the heart of mankind! My gratitude for our consecrated practitioners, to whom we confidently turn for guidance when the way looks dark, is deep and sincere. Many have been the instances to occasion this heartfelt gratitude, and I shall relate a few of them.

My earliest experience of the power of God to heal occurred when I was about five years old. Periodically from infancy I had suffered from severe attacks of croup. In discussing this case with a practitioner, my mother was advised to trust God in the event of another attack. The testing time came during the night with an attack so serious that I was scarcely able to breathe, but my mother obeyed the practitioner's admonition. She clung steadfastly to the truth, and within a short time, as she relates the incident, I was singing hymns, completely free. There was never a recurrence of the croup.

Another proof of God's power came a few years later when to all appearances my mother broke a bone near her ankle. A practitioner was called, and scarcely had the receiver been replaced when those of us assembled in the room heard the distinct, sharp snap of the bone as it set. Although discoloration was evident for some time, the intense pain vanished at once, and she resumed her household duties. Before long the foot was normal.
