THE UNIVERSAL SOLVENT

Christ Jesus implied the universality as well as the might of his heavenly Father when he said (Matt.19:26), "With God all things are possible." It is well to remember the Master's words in these times of world unrest. The Christian Scientist can help the race in its demonstration of peace by keeping clearly in mind the ability of God to dissolve the tensions of human thought. Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 242). "In patient obedience to a patient God, let us labor to dissolve with the universal solvent of Love the adamant of error,—self-will, self-justification, and self-love,—which wars against spirituality and is the law of sin and death."

A potent truth which one may employ in his efforts to dissolve error with "the universal solvent of Love" is the fact that there is but one Mind, one God. Our prayers for peace must start with the oneness of Mind and the understanding that Mind embraces all men, blessing and magnifying the good which humanity already manifests. Divine Mind asserts its power to increase the knowledge of divine Love and acts resistlessly upon human consciousness, thus leading it to rid itself of ignorance and strife.

Christian Science evidences the one Mind's self-assertion, and many are finding themselves drawn to Science as by an irresistible force. They accept the truths which Christian Science reveals—truths of the All-God and of spiritual man, of man's unseverable unity with God, of real law and substance and power. Their lives are transformed because they have yielded to the presence of divine Love, the universal solvent; their bodies are healed, their relations with others are stabilized, their limitations are broken down. They strive to yield more fully to the facts which Christian Science reveals and to stop resisting the Love that will dissolve for them the false consciousness of evil and matter and all that denies Spirit. They know that they can expect to help in the dissolving of error on a universal scale in the degree that they have dissolved its elements in their own mentalities.
