In 1948 our son became ill with...
In 1948 our son became ill with an infection of the foot. He was taken to a local physician for examination, and the diagnosis was that a fungus had developed from a cut on his foot. Applications of different remedies did not help, and the condition grew steadily worse.
After treatments by the physicians over a period of two months, our son was not able to wear a shoe or even to hobble about on the foot. A specialist was then engaged, and for another two months the boy had treatments from him. Still there was no change in the situation.
At last I became fearful that our child would lose his foot or remain a cripple. I told my husband that we had spent several hundred dollars without avail and that I would like to call in a Christian Science practitioner. My husband had lost all hope of a cure through medical means; so he agreed.
I called a practitioner and explained the case to her. She asked my husband and me to read some passages from the Bible and from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy in order to clear our thinking. Then she quoted Jesus' words (John 11:44), "Loose him, and let him go," and told us that in reality God was the Father and Mother of the child.
On the second day of Christian Science treatment our son was able to put a shoe on his foot for the first time in more than four months. By the end of the week he was riding his bicycle to the practitioner's home in order to hear her records of Mrs. Eddy's hymns. No form of medicine was used, and all the expensive medications were thrown away. In less than a month, as a result of Christian Science treatment, our son was playing football at school.
He is now in high school and participates in various sports. In a school competition he won the broad jump event and placed in the relays. At no time has there been a recurrence of the foot difficulty.
For this healing and many other blessings, we are extremely grateful to God, the Giver of all good. I am so grateful to Christ Jesus, the Wayshower, and to our beloved Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who gave us this beautiful truth of Christian Science. To the practitioner that released us from the fear we felt for our son, I am likewise grateful.—(Mrs.) Margaret Evalyne Richardson, Murphysboro, Illinois.
