FROM ANNUAL REPORTS OF CHRISTIAN SCIENCE COMMITTEES ON PUBLICATION

Fruitage from Radio Programs

Natal, South Africa

During the year there have been a number of letters from listeners to the broadcast of the radio program, "How Christian Science Heals," asking for copies of certain programs or for the pamphlet "Healing Through Spiritual Awakening." That the programs are heard in all parts of the Province is evidenced by these letters, which come from such places as Newcastle, Winterton, Pietermaritzburg, Durban, Margate, Empangeni, Felixton, Kwambonambi, and Candover.

There is also considerable evidence that the broadcasts are enjoyed not only by Europeans, but by Indians and African listeners as well. This Committee will never forget an interview he had with a blind Indian who had derived so much help from the broadcasts that he wrote a letter of appreciation and asked for a copy of our Hymnal. He passed the word round to his friends that the Committee was going to visit him, and so instead of talking to one Indian, the Committee found by the time he came to leave that there were about ten Indians listening intently to his replies to questions regarding Christian Science.

He distributed the few copies of the Sentinel he had brought with him and proceeded homewards, thinking over the mighty missionary work that awaits Christian Scientists as the trustful, childlike, and unworldly thought desires to know more of the loving Father-Mother God taught in Christian Science.

This Committee recently heard of a man who became interested in Christian Science through hearing the broadcast over his car radio one Sunday night. This incident seems to confirm Mary Baker Eddy's statement in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 72): "Not personal intercommunion but divine law is the communicator of truth, health, and harmony to earth and humanity."

There have been a number of cases reported during the year of Science and Health being purchased and borrowed and also of Christian Science treatment being sought as a direct result of the radio programs.

Through these Christian Science radio broadcasts a vast new audience is being blessed, and it behooves each one of us to remember that the Good Shepherd, whose voice the sheep know, is always present to guard and guide each one safely into the sheepfold.
