I have received so much help...
I have received so much help and encouragement from reading the testimonies in our periodicals that I wish to give my written testimony. I pray that it may help someone as I have been helped.
About thirty-five years ago I began to study Christian Science. My need for something to lean on was very great, for my husband had passed on, leaving me with two small children to care for and with very little means. I was wretched and could not see how the rest of the world could be so gay when I was so miserable.
My mother came to stay with me and take care of my children while I went to work. It was then I met a woman who was evidently even worse off than I was, and yet she appeared to be joyous and happy. I asked her how she could be that way in view of what she had to meet. She told me she was a student of Christian Science, and that she knew she would always be taken care of because God had never failed her. She said that even when she was out of employment and did not know where her next meal for herself and three children would come from, their needs were always abundantly supplied. I was so impressed by her attitude that I took up the study of Christian Science.
My first healing through my own understanding was that of inflammation of my eyes. This condition started about noon one day, and by evening my face was badly swollen. I went home from work, and my mother wanted to apply a material remedy, but I told her that I wished to try to work out the problem in Christian Science. Although I suffered the first part of the night, I kept pondering "the scientific statement of being" on page 468 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and I finally fell asleep. I wakened about five o'clock the next morning, and I was completely healed. It was indeed a taste of heaven to be free.
I have been healed of bronchial pneumonia and an abscessed ear. By realizing that God is present and that there are no accidents in God's kingdom, I was healed of the effects of accidents on two occasions. And by knowing that an ugly growth is not the manifestation of infinite Mind, I was healed in two days of a large wart on my temple. An infected great toe, from which the nail had fallen off, was healed, and a new nail came in a short time. When loved ones have passed en. grief has been overcome. Lost articles have been restored, and business transactions have worked out harmoniously when I have thought of giving instead of getting. It would take too much space to toll how all these healings were brought about, but Christian Science was the only means used. I am grateful that now, when I am at an age when most people retire, I have good health and adequate strength to keep house for myself and others.
Also I am grateful for membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and for the privilege I have had of serving in church work for many years. For the practitioners and for my Christian Science friends, who have been so kind and loving, I wish to speak a special word of gratitude. I thank God that Mrs. Eddy discovered the healing truth that Jesus taught and practiced and then gave her discovery to the world.—(Mrs.) Sara Belle Hooper, Folsom, California.
