UNASSAILABLE

No one can turn back dawn
With gesture of a hand,
Or halt the moving spheres
With arrogant command.

And none can turn back Truth.
Its orbit is all space;
Its light, undimmed by cloud,
Inviolable grace.

Resistless beams reveal
The universe intact,
And man's security
Invulnerable fact.

Truth knows no shadowed realm,
No sunless, midnight hour:
Infinity its scope—
Yet gentleness its power.
