"TRUTH IS AFFIRMATIVE"

The solution to every problem begins with the recognition of the spiritual facts of being. In the light of these facts the negation of evil beliefs becomes a relatively simple action. In "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mary Baker Eddy says (p. 418): "Truth is affirmative, and confers harmony. All metaphysical logic is inspired by this simple rule of Truth, which governs all reality. By the truthful arguments you employ, and especially by the spirit of Truth and Love which you entertain, you will heal the sick."

For us to be successful, every effort in Science needs to be based on the truth governing the case. The truth in every situation is that there is one perfect God, Spirit, governing man in perfect harmony. Truth wipes out the lie that matter is real and that it has power to control man or to determine his length of days. Moses said of God (Deut. 32:4), "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." Surely there are no mistakes in our great God, Truth! The purpose of all treatment should be to demonstrate Truth's integrity.

In demonstration, the pure ideas of spiritual truth are introduced into the patient's consciousness. Spiritual truth is divinely positive, whereas human desire may be ignorantly or willfully so. Just to assert a material want and then to attempt to use human will, sometimes miscalled faith, to satisfy that want is hardly in agreement with the Master's direction (Luke 12:31), "Seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you." Truthful arguments will meet human needs, reform the sinner, heal the sick, and raise the dead. Mesmeric arguments based on human will mislead and enslave those who use them.
